September is Literacy Month!

Our literacy project started as the Mamie Eisenhower Literacy project, the oldest literacy project of the National Federation of Republican Women. Selected books were donated to area libraries or schools. In 2010, we started participating in the Dictionary Project, which is part of the Barbara Bush Literacy Program. The dictionary is specifically written for the third-grade level and includes lots of additional reference information. Since its inception, we have donated over 260 books to local schools, both public and private, and have given some books to the Benton Harbor Street Ministry. The students love receiving their very own book.

Youth Fair Drawing

The Women's Club participates in the Berrien County Youth Fair, along with the Berrien County Republican Party, by volunteering at the GOP Building on the fairgrounds. We hold a drawing annually that includes items of interest to young people.

Women's Club Meetings

General membership meetings are held three times a year at local establishments. They begin with a luncheon and offer a program of current interest. During election years, the June meeting is organized as a candidate forum breakfast.

Our fall program is Government Day, when high school student representatives and their sponsors from the schools in our district are invited to join us as our guests for lunch and to hear the program speaker.

Note: Luncheon reservations are $15 per meeting. Anyone interested is welcome!  Please call to find out about the next meeting by calling 269-982-9939.
